Part I: The Kiss Defined - When Love Becomes Betrayal
By Dr. Paul A. Scavella
Beloved Church Family,
there is a danger that does not come from outside the church—it arises quietly from within. It does not shout; it whispers. It does not strike openly; it embraces... and then it wounds.
This is what Scripture reveals as the kiss of Judas.
📖The Bible Says
"The One I kiss is the man; arrest Him... 'Greetings, Rabbi!' and kissed Him."
(Matthew 26:48–49) [biblehub.com]
And Jesus responds with solemn clarity:
"Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"
(Luke 22:48) [bibleversestudy.com]
A kiss—an act of affection—was used to carry out betrayal.

❓What Does This Mean for Us Today?
The kiss of Judas represents:
Judas was not a stranger — he was a disciple.
He walked with Jesus, served with Jesus, and was trusted by Jesus — yet his heart was never fully surrendered.

Let us ask ourselves honestly:
🙏 Closing Thought
The question is not "Where is Judas?"
The question is:
"Lord... is it I?"
